THA Lore Thursdays: Orbital Drop Shock Trooper

“Most of the crew – not to mention your fellow jarheads – will be leaving the ship in lifeboats. They’ll ride to the surface in air conditioned comfort, sipping wine, and nibbling on appetizers. Not you, however. Oh no, you’re going to leave the Pillar of Autumn in a different method. Tell me boys and girls… how will you leave?”

— Major Antonio Silva, aboard UNSC Pillar of Autumn.
“We go feet first, sir!”

— Shock Trooper’s response.

The Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) are a special operations capable organization of the UNSC Marine Corps that specialize in orbital-dropped shock infantry and special warfare tactics. The ODSTs are one of the primary Special Operations units of the United Nations Space Command, and is under the supervision of Naval Special Warfare Command.

4.21.15 Halo MCC Patch Notes

This is a reblog from HaloWaypoint.com

The next time you log into Halo: The Master Chief Collection, you will be prompted to download the latest content update, which focuses on ranking, matchmaking penalties, stability, as well as game-specific improvements for each title.

Below, you’ll find a summary of what is included in today’s update:

RANKING

  • Made a variety of improvements to ranking consistency and penalties.
  • Resolved an issue that could cause a player to rank down excessively, such as dropping multiple levels after a loss.
  • Resolved an issue that caused a player’s rank to appear incorrectly.

Based on these improvements and updates, we’ll be resetting ranking for Halo 2: Anniversary, and separately, will begin to roll out ranks to additional playlists soon (we’re aiming for the next day or so), starting with the addition of ranking to the Team Slayer and Halo Championship Series playlists. We’ll be actively monitoring the ranking system across these playlists over the next few days to ensure that everything is working properly before adding ranks to additional playlists.

Pistola Officially Joins Cloud9

It’s been rumored since Ninja was booted off of Cloud 9 that Pistola was the likely replacement. He has been scrimming online with the team for a few weeks now, however no official announcement was made. It was rumored that it was because of contractual obligations with Evil Geniuses. However today on Cloud9’s site the roster has been updated.

2015-04-10 11_24_17-Halo — Cloud9

Should be an interesting Season 2 of HCS. Currently Cloud9 has been struggling in Scrims with other teams. They usually perform much better at events, but the online events are just as important to earn valuable points.

Halo Online Torrented Despite Cease and Desist Order

Microsoft and the modding community are all full odd on Halo Online. Halo Online is the Free to Play PC Halo Experience exclusive to Russia, and has since been made available thanks to leakers in other countries. Microsoft has issued a cease and desist order to stop the distribution of the game.

Halo Online, which is built in the Halo 3 engine, includes many things that Halo 3 never had. With the inclusion the micro transactions, perks, and additional weapon variants. Modders see this opportunity to make a Halo 3 game strictly for PC which removes most of the additions made by Microsoft. Fans have been begging Microsoft to release Halo 3 for PC for near 10 years and they haven’t budged.

It appears that the group responsible for the copies does not plan or monetization at all. They are solely concerned on making a PC experience that Halo fans have been asking for. From the source of this article, it seems that they’ve taken the necessary precautions to make sure that that a copy exists regardless of DMCA orders.

Personally I feel like this is only going to ensure that Microsoft will be even more hesitant to releasing Halo Online in other countries. I do however hope that this persistence from the modding community will steer them in the direction of porting Halo 3 to the PC.

April’s MCC Update

Last month’s update saw a big improvement in overall matchmaking stability and from the sound of it this month’s update hopes to build upon that. Recently some changes have been made to the Halo CE playlist from 2-3 players to 2 only strictly. 343i continues to monitor the playlist and make appropriate changes.

From a recent Waypoint article, it seems like they are hoping to add a few more playlists into the hopper. Including; Team Doubles, SWAT and Team Snipers. The matchmaking team will be diving into the data to see which one of these playlists will become a permanent edition to the rotation. So folks if you want to see your favorite kept in the rotation, make sure you play as much of it as you can.

In addition to this they are hoping to finally add ranks to some other playlists as well. Something most people have been asking for since launch. An arrival date is still TBD on the update, but when it goes live 343i will post the patch notes.
