30 Years of Halo

Yes you read that correctly. 30 YEARS OF HALO. At least this is what 343i’s Studio Head Bonnie Ross wants to see. She noted in a recent quote to Gamespot that:

“I wanted to make sure we were able to go another three decades.”

Gamespot did confirm that she meant this in relation to 343i and the Halo Franchise itself. This is very much in line with what Microsoft has wanted to pursue since taking over and creating Halo 4. Instead of a trilogy, the are dubbing it as the Reclaimer Saga. Ross also noted that she and the studio want to get away from the numbered releases and do more spin-off series, which I would imagine would be something similar to ODST.

This is very interesting as it seems that 343 is diving as far away from core Halo into a new interpretation. I for one would love to see more and more Halo, but I personally do not think that the franchise can stay relevant in it’s current identity crisis. It’s clear to me that 343i is going to continue on with their interpretation of Halo and the long time fans who may enjoy the classic experience are left behind.

I myself as a fan knew one day that the Halo series would end. This would have ultimately been a sad day, but I always envisioned it going out with a bang with one of the best games to date. I myself will leave all final judgments until I actually play the beta and experience it first hand. However, from what I have seen I am not all too enthusiastic. Don’t get me wrong here, the visuals are stunning, and things seem to flow really well. It’s the mechanics and gameplay that I’m concerned about.

IG Columbus Leaderboards

The leaderboards have been released for this past weekends first HCS Sanctioned tournament. The top 10 list is below.

2014-12-16 10_11_38-Iron Gaming

Most interestingly enough no one from CLG or EG is on this top 10 list. From my own investigation it seems that this list may not be 100% accurate. I do wish that this list had filters and sorts attached to it because the list is currently sorted by total kills. I would love to see a K/D column added. Personally to me, K/D is a better indicator of the total level of play, especially at this high of a competitive level.

Those are just my two cents, have a thought? Leave a comment below.

HCS Season 1: Standings update

Iron Games Columbus finished up yesterday with Evil Geniuses (EG) facing off against Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) in a game 5 Grand Finals. EG battled back from being sent to the losers bracket by CLG and pushed it to a game 5 situation. For EG to have won the tournament, they would have had to win 2 best of 5 series, as the tournament is double elimination.

https://irongaming.tv/news_articles/15

Here is the Top 32 from the Tournament.

This is just the second tournament in the HCS with the first being an ESL Online tournament. Currently with a win at IG Columbus CLG is in first place with a total of 3,005 HCS points. These points will determine seedings for the Finals Tournament in March of 2015. More details to come on that one. Current standings are below.

1. Counter Logic Gaming – Heinz, OGRE2, Royal 2, Snakebite = 3,005
2. Evil Geniuses – Roy, Lunchbox, Snipedown, Pistola = 2,550
3. OpTic Halo – Flamesword, Ace, Assault, Aries = 1,475
4. Cloud9 – FearItSelf, Hysteria, Ninja, Victory X = 925
5. Believe The Hype – aPG, Lxthul, Maniac, Legit = 810
6. Str8 Rippin – Tsquared, Naded, Str8 Sick, Prototype = 560
7. Fatal Ambition – Klein, RC, Siege, SpartanTheDog = 390
8. Noble Reality Check – SUDDOTH1, SUDDOTH2, ContrA, PreDevoNatoR = 350

Confused on how points are awarded? So was I, but after some digging I found some info on how points will be given out at HCS championship sanctioned tournaments.

Stay tuned as the next online tournaments will be Sunday December 21st, Sunday December 28th, and another LAN tournament in January with UGC St. Louis.
